Amy Miller - Owner & Speech and Language Therapist

Amy qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2010 from the University of Canterbury. Initially working for a couple of years in Hawkes Bay,
Amy then spent time traveling overseas and working in London hospitals and clinics before returning home to Invercargill with her husband..
After becoming Mum to two children, Amy gradually moved from hospital work into setting up private practice, a much needed area in Southland. Photography, renovating the family home, and traveling when possible keeps Amy extra busy.

Kathryn Farmer - Speech Language Therapist

Kathryn has been a valued speech language therapist for 15+ years and brings her excellent skills and experience to Bespoke SLT.
Having spent time working with adults, children and infants, Kathryn is passionate in helping children and families with communication and feeding/swallowing difficulties.
Aside from speech language therapy, Kathryn leads a busy life on the family farm with her husband and three children. Kathryn moved to Southland early in her career and has set her roots here, enjoying the outdoor lifestyle that Southland provides.

Speech and Language Therapy Services
Voice Therapy and Treatment of Laryngeal Conditions
Following an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist consultation, treatment may be recommended to help with a croaky, strained or weak voice, chronic cough or vocal cord dysfunction (PVFM). Treatment usually includes managing optimal health of the voice and throat, as well as a vocal exercise programme to be completed both in clinic and at home.
Neurological Rehabilitation
This can include both communication and swallowing difficulties following any neurological changes such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and Parkinsons disease. This may include but is not limited to, difficulty with speech clarity (dysarthria), finding words or forming sentences (aphasia) and conversational skills.
Dysphagia (Swallowing Difficulty)
This includes assessment, advice and management for adults who have difficulty with their swallowing.
Speech Therapy for Children
Suitable for children who have trouble pronouncing the speech sounds expected for their age, as well as preschool language delays (late talkers).

What should I expect?
We will begin with an initial assessment which will include a case history, any relevant observation and assessment and then a discussion regarding next steps and recommended treatment.
How do I make an appointment?
Call or email admin@bespoketherapy.co.nz and we can discuss any enquiries. There may be a waiting list for new clients.
What do I need to do before my appointment?
It can be helpful to provide any reports or letters from previous therapy, doctors, etc before your appointment. If you are being seen regarding a voice disorder, you will need to have seen an ENT specialist prior to treatment.
What happens after my assessment?
At the time of your appointment you will be provided with some advice and what therapy is recommended. A therapy programme, if suitable, will then be started at your next appointment.
How long does therapy take?
This always depends on your individual circumstances. Sometimes people only need one or two appointments for some advice, and others may need a block of therapy for several weeks or months. We can discuss the best options for you and your situation.
